Engaging with Remembrance Day聽2024

04 Nov 2024
91看片 community honours and reflects on war, conflict, and peace building聽

Each year at the beginning of November, our thoughts turn to Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by countless individuals throughout history.

On Monday, Nov. 11 the University will be closed and the flags will be lowered to half-mast in observance of Remembrance Day.

In collaboration with MtA Spiritual Care, we encourage students, faculty, and staff to engage with this important day, honouring the traditions we have upheld since 1919.

Given that November 11 falls during Reading Week, here are several ways students can participate leading up to Remembrance Day.

Reflection on Campus

Spiritual Care invites the University community to engage in reflections on the themes of war, peace-building, and community.

Outreach tables will be set up throughout campus from November 4鈥8 for the University community to engage in conversations about Remembrance Day with Multi-faith Chaplain and Spiritual Care Co-ordinator Ellie Hummel and Spiritual Care Ambassadors.

  • Monday, Nov. 4 from 1鈥3 p.m. | Library
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m.鈥1 p.m. | Jennings
  • Thursday, Nov. 7 from 1鈥3 p.m. | by Gracie鈥檚 Cafe

Reflection stations will be available for community members to engage with thoughtful prompts honouring Remembrance Day. These stations will be open from Monday, November 4 to Friday, November 8, located in the following buildings:

  • Athletic Centre
  • Chapel
  • Jennings Dining Hall
  • Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts
  • R.P. Bell Library

All are welcome to visit and participate in this meaningful reflection.

Community Remembrance Day Service

The University community is invited to join the Sackville Royal Canadian Legion at Convocation Hall on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The service will conclude with a march to the Cenotaph in Memorial Park, located at the corner of Bridge and Weldon Streets, for additional Remembrance Day observances.

Mount A Remembers

A video will be released on Monday, Nov. 11 on social media. This video will feature the annual reading of the names of 163 members of the 91看片 community who gave their lives for our freedom.

The Remembrance Day slideshow 鈥淔allen of WWI鈥 is also available on the .

We hope this observance provides a meaningful opportunity for all members of 91看片 to remember, honour, and work toward peace.
